BJB is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors who have appealed against a rejection but remain concerned about the editorial process can refer their case to COPE. For more information, visit www.publicationethics.org.

Publication and peer review processes

BJB uses online peer review to speed up the publication process. The time taken to reach a final decision depends on whether reviewers request revisions, and how quickly authors are able to respond. Once an article is accepted, it is published in BJB immediately as a provisional PDF file. The paper will subsequently be published in both fully browse able web form, and as a formatted PDF. The article will then be available through BJB.

  • Option "Article in Press" allows visualization of scientific journals accepted for publication by editors before appearing in the magazine's print version.
  • Scientific articles are available full text and identical to the printed version.
  • There are no restrictions to save or print documents.
  • The search engine allows searching all online journals available on this platform.
  • Are searchable by keyword and advanced searches after a series of filters introduced by researchers.
  •  Offers the possibility to set up a personal account that each researcher can save articles of interest, searches performed and bibliographies.
  • Possibility of programming an automatic e-mail alert to the emergence of new articles or issues of magazines that meet predetermined criteria by individual researchers

The ultimate responsibility for any decision lies with the Editor-in-Chief, to whom any appeals against rejection should be addressed.

No article processing charge needs to be paid by the author
At this time, the publication costs for BJB are covered by the journal, so authors do not need to pay for an article.

Editorial policies

Any manuscripts or substantial parts of it, submitted to the journal must not be under consideration by any other journal. In general, the manuscript should not have already been published in any journal or other citable form, although it may have been deposited on a preprint server. Authors are required to ensure that no material submitted as part of a manuscript infringes existing copyrights, or the rights of a third party. Authors who publish in BJB retain copyright to their work.

Correspondence concerning articles published in BJB is encouraged.

Submission of a manuscript to BJB implies that all authors have read and agreed to its content, and that any experimental research that is reported in the manuscript has been performed with the approval of an appropriate ethics committee. Research carried out on humans must be in compliance with the Helsinki Declaration, and any experimental research on animals must follow internationally recognized guidelines. A statement to this effect must appear in the Methods section of the manuscript, including the name of the body which gave approval, with a reference number where appropriate. Informed consent must also be documented. Manuscripts may be rejected if the editorial office considers that the research has not been carried out within an ethical framework, e.g. if the severity of the experimental procedure is not justified by the value of the knowledge gained.

  • Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted;
  • A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
  • A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
